<p>We sell and install solar hot water systems. Occasionally we get requests from customers who would like to install their own systems. There are several ways we can accomadate this kind of request. Optimum Air can supply a certifiable system with install instructions and arrange to visit the installed system for inspection and start-up after the customer has done most of the work.  One of our CANSIA certified installers will inspect the installation with the homeowner and complete the commissioning worksheet.  Once the system has been inspected, and any install defects corrected, the solar system may qualifiy for a BC Solar grant and any manufacturor&#8217;s warranties can be implemented. Please note: This is not for everyone, the installation of a solar hot water system requires a level of skill with plumbing tools, can involve work on roofs, making roof penetrations, etc.  At Optimum Air, we would look for experience with this type of work before we would even consider turning the work over to a homeowner and although we have supervised successful owner-installed systems,  we know that not everyone should be cutting a hole in their new roof or cutting in to the existing plumbing in their home.  We use trained professionals to complete an install. That means completion of a &#8220;fall-safety course&#8221;, Cansia testing and training, and the use of ticketed plumbers and electricians when required. All of our work is covered by Worksafe BC, and we carry substantial liability insurance.</p>
<p>We also sell seasonal solar systems that can be assembled and installed on the ground or on a roof  with less impact on the existing plumbing or building structure.  These systems may be shut off and drained down for the coldest winter months and lend themselves well to homes with wood fired water heating available for the winter.   These systems come with instructions and all the needed parts in one or two cartons.  If you think this type of system would be right for your situation give us a call or email to discuss your requirements with a professional.</p>

Individual modules or &#8220;cassettes&#8221; are connected to an outdoor unit with small copper lines and deliver heating or cooling to the space they are installed in.  These units deliver conditioned air at very high efficiencies. They are quiet, programable, and easy to operate.  <a href="http://www.daikinac.com">www.daikinac.com</a> . The most efficient units use inverter technology. This allows the outdoor unit (condenser) to vary its speed to match the load (amount of work to be done). Rather than cycling off and on as the indoor temperature varies, an inverter condenser continues to run at a lower speed when the load changes resulting in a more efficient and more comfortable air conditioner.</p>

<li>change furnace filter regularly &#8211; every four to six weeks.</li>
<li>clear away debris and weeds from your outside condensing unit to enhance performance.</li>
<li>repair any disconnected or crushed ductwork.</li>
<li>keep your thermostat set at 78°F or 26°C. The ideal difference between the outside air and the inside air should be no more than 20°F or 7°C – no matter how hot it is outside.</li>
<li>turn off you’re a/c when you’re not going to be home, and close your shades or curtains; this should keep it cool enough so it doesn’t take long to reach the desired temperature when you get in and turn on the a/c again, unless it is extremely hot. In that case, set the temperature so the house is 6-8 degrees warmer when you’re away, then lower it when you get in. Otherwise, it may take too long to cool off to the desired temperature.</li>
<li>open the windows at night if it is cooler outside, turn the air-conditioner off, and close the windows in the morning before the temperature rises</li>
<li>keep doors and windows closed when you have the air-conditioning on.</li>
<li>if you have a two-story house, run your furnace fan constantly for more consistent temperature throughout your home.</li>
